Artist Statement

I work with a camera as well as with cut paper, paint, oil sticks, mirrored plexiglass and mixed media. I create actual collages from the pieces I cut from the media, mail and magazines that catch my attention or photographs, whole or cut up to create portraits of new characters. I photograph these images in various forms as I am making the collage and use Photoshop to rework the photographs and create new personas from the old ones. Noses, lips, eyes, chins appear and are repeated, like the DNA we carry from generation to generation. Photography allows me to create digital collages of the images, I layer these with disparate images to create “reflections.” I paint on the actual photographs to create a unique image.
